The Western Pennsylvania Montessori School, Inc., was founded in September 1965 as a non-profit organization and is affiliated with the American Montessori Society.

The school is operated by the Head of School, and has 15 Corporate members and a Board of 9 directors, many of whom are parents of children currently enrolled in the school.

The Western Pennsylvania Montessori School admits students of any race, color, and ethnic origin to all rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to students of the school. Further, educational, admission, and administrative policies do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, or ethnic origin.

The Montessori environment is designed such that children are not grouped by age. The environment is unique in that it is based on a balance between freedom and structure. It establishes a strong basis for development into a well-rounded, responsible, happy, and fulfilled adult.
